5 Prompts for Your Gratitude Journal

Gratitude is about slowing down enough to acknowledge and appreciate the really small things that are contributing positively to your life. At first, it might seem like these things are no big deal, but once you do it enough you’ll realize that the littlest things make the biggest impact. Whether you journal every day, every week, every month, or even if you’re just starting out, it can be hard to come up with meaningful prompts that aren’t too overwhelming. Try these ones out, and feel free to share in the comments. Let’s all be grateful together!

  1. What is something you did today that made you feel really great?

For this one it can be as simple as taking a walk, making your bed, fueling your body, or even relaxing. Take the chance to connect with how you’re feeling and identify the things that make you feel your best.

  2. What is one lesson you learned this week?

As human beings, we are CONSTANTLY learning. It never ever stops. It doesn’t matter how big or small the lesson is, what matters is that you’re growing. For example, today I learned that you can embed links into a PDF. How useful is that?! I’m going to start linking everything all the time!

  3. Name one song that makes you want to dance, write the lyrics down or sketch out a visual of the song.

Ok, this one is so fun! Most of my favorite memories come from music and dance, it’s powerful stuff. If you’re feeling a little crazy you can even throw the song on to dance before, after, and even during your journaling session. Let loose and release those happy hormones!

  4. Name one positive thing that makes you unique, and then write about it!

We can be really hard on ourselves, most of the time we just want to fit in. That’s ok, it’s human nature. But we’re also unique individuals and the qualities that make us different from each other are often some of our best ones. It could be a habit, a feature, an outlook on life. Find something that makes you stand out in a way that you’re proud of and take the time to appreciate it!.

  5. Name something that gave you comfort today and explain why.

It can become dangerous territory when we develop habits to comfort ourselves but don’t pay attention to them. Learning to be grateful for some of these comforts and habits can be a great way to check in with yourself. Plus, when we appreciate the things that give us comfort, they become a special and productive part of our routines. Let comfort work for you and not against you.

I’ve found that these prompts are a great place to start, and some of them you can even repeat time and time again. I’m always looking for new things to write about in my own journaling journey. Share your favorite prompts in the comments!
